About the reported resurrections in Teresópolis (part 1 of 2)

A number of people have sent me a copies of an email message, purporting to have been from a friend of the leader of a team of Americans that supposedly resurrected sixteen people killed during the landslides in Teresópolis.

The original email is entitled "Here is the testimony and documents of the 16 dead raised" and was sent by a Claudia K--- to a (name removed), apparently on January 20, 2011 8:00:55 PM PST.  It read as follows:

Hi (name removed)!

I wanted to send you the full documents and testimony now that we  can release it. She asked no names used yet but my girlfriend is the selected  public spokesman for the team. She doesn't care if she loses her job over this!  She refuses to rob God of glory!! haha!

Just wanted you to have it and you  can send it to whoever you want!  The news article and pictures (unbelievable) are attached!

Following this message, in a different type font, is the message:

My girlfriend is a nurse and she is leading a missions team of doctors and  nurses to Brazil. They left on Jan 13, 2011....they are still there til the  28th. On the 12th there had been massive flooding in Brazil and over 600 people died. They were not going for this reason but the timing of their trip just  happened to coincide.

None of the team, except my friend, had ever experienced the power of the  Holy Spirit or miracles for that matter!!

She had asked David and I to be praying for her while there. So we did and  still are  :)

I had sent her a small email on the 13th with a small word and she  mentioned how blessed the team was by it. So the next night, I send her another  email (if you want to see it I can send it too) but she told me that when she read the email to her team in chapel on Saturday the 15th in the morning, one by  one the team members fell under the power of God. They laid there, not being  able to move for over an hour while someone reread my email over them, over and  over and over.

She said the email had released so much faith to them that just at the end of the chapel time, when the Holy Spirit told them to "Go to the morgue, NOW!" They immediately obeyed. What happened in the morgue and on the street near  the morgue is almost incomprehensible and hard to imagine but I talked to my friend on Sunday morning and got the incredible, play by play details.

After chapel on saturday morning when they fell under the power, the team went out into the streets and the morgue and raised 16 people who had died in the floods 3 days earlier, from the dead.

I've attached the local newspaper article (translated below) from the area in Brazil where this happened. The article was published Sunday, 1/16/11.

The testimony is below from the pictures attached and the newpaper article  printed on sunday morning! Read on.....

We have permission now to release the testimony !!!! Just needed to make  sure we never use their names or hosipitasl or the foundations is all!! But we are free to send it out!! Yipeee!

Following in a different colour is the title "Below is the English translation of the local newspaper article with the  documented interviews of two of the people that had been risen from the dead:" and the text:

Caleme,  Teresopolis

16 Dead Bodies  Confirmed Resurrected from the Dead

Sunday, January 16, 2011

CALEME,  TERESOPOLIS, Brazil - People of the barrio of Caleme has witnessed Saturday 5  dead bodies raised from the dead in the street. Another 10 bodies from the  morgue have been raised to life. 1 woman who drowned and was dead  was also raised back to life. The people in Caleme reported that 5 American men  went near the 5 bodies and yelled "Rise and live in the name of Jesus". The dead  bodies started to shake and stood up and walked and are alive. At the nearby  morgue, there were 10 dead bodies in the hallway. People said that 5 foreign  women went near the bodies and said "Rise and live in the name of Jesus". The  dead bodies shook and stood up shaking and walking and were alive. People were  screaming, yelling. Riot at the barrio of Caleme. These 5 dead bodies in the street of Caleme have been dead since Wednesday January 12. The 10  dead bodies in the morgue have been left in the hallway since Wednesday. People  have talked to the dead risen. They were still weak but were able to talk and  said "I was in a dark place many people crying, shouting. Was I asleep? Now I am alive!" "I know I was dead. I was in a dark ugly place. I do not know what  happened but I am back to life. God is alive. The families of these dead are celebrating and happy. There has been hope in Caleme since Saturday.

The message continues with the text, presumably by Claudia:

Here are the details that my friend gave me over the phone about the  pictures attached to the article.

The team had raised up a total of  16 people from the dead on January 15, 2011. The same number that the Holy  Spirit had given to them earlier that day. 10 + 5 +1 = 16

The link below is to a picture (in color) of the five bodies that died in  the floods on Jan. 12, 2011. It was taken on the day that they died. This  picture was taken 3 days before they were raised back to life on January 15, 2011. My friend told me those bodies were lined up along the side of the road  and left there for three days until when on Jan. 15, 5 men from their medical  missions team, came upon them and not knowing exactly how to raise the dead, the team decided to just stand there and worship the Lord over the bodies (this is  what my friend told me but the news article says differently). As they worshiped, the bodies began to shake and tremble and began to sit up and stand.  Instantly, the people all around began to shout and scream and within in a few  seconds there was chaos and a mob of people. This picture matches exactly to the top picture you see in the newspaper article attached.

They waited and within five  seconds, one body began to shake as if "someone had been stomping on them" and  then one by one all the bodies were shaking. Each body then began to slowly sit up, and then stand. The grieving family members began to shout and scream wildly and in an instant there was chaos in the room. The interpreter quickly  ushered the team out of the building for their safety. They met up with the other teams members that had been walking the street and had just raised the other 5 to life. That team had also come across a dead body which had been more  of a recent death and decided to try CPR. Just as they were going to do CPR the Holy Spirit told the team leader, "Do not do CPR! Command the body to rise and  live". So they did and that body began to shake and sit up. That person was  also raised from the dead.

This link below will take you to that picture but you have to scroll down a  bit to see it. It's in the right hand column. To make it easier for you we  attached a screen capture above. It is the same picture used in the newspaper article that was written about that day. The pictures are both date stamped. Incredible.

They stood to the back of the room,  amongst the family members who were grieving and mourning their losses and the 5  ladies from the missions team linked hands. As they did, they began to shake  under the power of God. They felt the Holy Spirit give them the words to say  and all together they shouted it, "RISE UP AND LIVE IN THE NAME OF JESUS". The leader told me that their voices were not their own and that "somewhere in our  bellies" came a thundering voice in one accord, as if they had shouted through a megaphone.

The second (or bottom) picture in  the newspaper article appears to be the leftover pile of dirty blankets that  were used to cover the 10 dead people in the morgue who were waiting to be  buried but then raised from the dead instead. These bodies all had been dead  for three days as well, due to drowning in the floods. The other five members  of the medical missions team had entered the morgue under the Holy Spirits  leading. He had given them the number 16 but were not sure what that meant.

Two files are attached to the email, a PDF containing what is supposed to be the front page of the newspaper Diá¡rio de Teresópolis from the Sunday, 16th of January, and a screen shot of a photo of bodies, supposedly shown in the same paper.

This report was widely circulated on sites such as the Bethel church's iBethel.org (since removed), the Healing Herald and the blog upsidedownbethlehem.

I was ministering in Rio Grande do Sul when I received the first copy of this email and, although I was unable to access the attachments, it just didn't "sit" with me - the dates and facts mentioned did not align with my limited knowledge of events in the Região Serrana that week.

Here are the facts as reported by the emails:

1. A friend of Claudia (unnamed) is the "selected public spokesman" and leader of a team of doctors and nurses who went to Brazil on a mission unrelated to the floods of the 12th of January. The team left (presumably the US) on the 13th of January, 2011 and will be there until the 28th.

2. Claudia sent an email to the team with "a small word" on the 13th and the leader said it blessed the team.

3. The next night (the 14th) Claudia sent another email to the team which was read "in chapel" on the morning of Saturday the 15th, resulting in the whole team falling in the power of the Spirit and being given the direction to "Go to the morgue, now" and the number 16.

4. The team then raised 16 people who died in the floods on the 12th from the dead, in the morgue and in the street.

5. The resurrections were then reported in the local newspaper on Sunday the 16th with two accompanying pictures. The first picture is of five dead bodies which were reportedly subsequently raised from the dead in the street. The second picture reportedly shows the "leftover pile of dirty blankets that were used to cover the 10 dead people in the morgue who were waiting to be buried but then raised from the dead instead".

Before I continue, let me explain that I move in the power of the Holy Spirit, frequently see healings, and have spoken to credible witnesses who HAVE raised the dead. I have no theological reasons to doubt that this is indeed possible

Why did these reported facts make me feel uneasy about the story?

1. The timing of the teams arrival.

If they left the United States on the 13th, they would have spent at least eight hours in the plane if they left from Miami, and much longer if they left from the west coast. Adding the time to pass customs at the airport, and the road trip up to Teresópolis (even in good conditions), it is highly unlikely that they would have arrived and been accomodated in time to receive and "be blessed" as a team by Claudia's first email.

2. Access to Teresópolis

The two main access routes into Teresópolis, from the Baixada Fluminese in Rio de Janeiro, and the continuation of the RJ 116 from Nova Friburgo, were both closed by slips following the rains and mudslides. Those who follow my blog will know that following the 25 hour trip from New Zealand to São Paulo on the 16th, I prepared my car and purchased the supplies the next day before driving from São Paulo to Friburgo on Tuesday, the 18th. This trip took much longer than expected - a total of 12 1/2 hours - due to slips on the RJ116 to Friburgo and the fact that my GPS tried to send my through Teresópolis to get to Friburgo. When I saw the electronic panels informing that the road to Teresópolis was still closed, and confirmed this information with a gas station attendant, I then returned to Rio to cross the Niteroi bridge and travel up through the RJ116.

So how were the team able to be in Teresópolis by the 13th or the 14th at the latest?

3. The fact that no Brazilian sites or news sources were reporting the story.

If the resurrections had in fact been reported by the Diário de Teresópolis, this would have been picked up by other news sources. But a quick Google showed no mention of this story in English or Portuguese.

4. The fact that Caleme was to have been evacuated by Civil Defence on the 13th or 14th.

According to this article in the Teresópolis Jornal, on the afternoon of the 13th the Municipal Secretary for Civil Defence and the Environment, Flávio Luiz Castro, declared that "all of the community of Caleme would be evacuted due to the problems that hit the suburb" (my translation). The article is subtitled "Secretary of Civil Defence says the nobody will be able to stay in the suburb".

How were the team able to walk around freely in Caleme on the 15th?

I also wondered how, if "None of the team, except my friend, had ever experienced the power of the Holy Spirit or miracles for that matter" they were so sure that "He had given them the number 16 but were not sure what that meant."

To be continued...
