Sierra Leone landslide and floods

Sierra Leone landslide and floods

From the 22nd of August until the 2nd of September I had the opportunity to participate in a small disaster relief team through Iris Relief which deployed to the city of Freetown, Sierra Leone, in response to the floods and landslide which caused the deaths of some one thousand people and left thousands more homeless.

Our team was able to work with some of the survivors at the landslide site and in the hospital, and also to help another community which experienced flooding while we were in the country. We also had the opportunity to hold a two day disaster risk reduction training course for responders and residents at the location where the landslide occurred. This course was very well received and there appears to be considerable interest in the possibility of my holding some CERT training there in the future.

Here are some photos from the deployment.
